The comedian is known for breaking so many rules since he achieved fame as a professional actor. The critics have been relentless in destroying his professional career, but despite the struggles he was able to emerge successful and even more spiritual. Russell Brand has proven detractors wrong and is now viewed in a totally new light by the people and the media around him.

He found spiritual truths that he is able to use to center and focus on. One of the best things about Brand is the way he has turned a negative PR image into a positive one. He is known for using Comic Relief to raise awareness and support for drug rehabilitation projects. He was able to successfully create a campaign to help those who are in abstinence based addiction treatment. When he was in his 20s, he spent most of his life addicted to crack cocaine, heroines and prostitutes and this has ruined a lot of possibilities for him. But the chaotic life and experiences he was able to narrate well in his book My Book Wook, a series of helpful anecdotes are included in here and the same chaos and addiction is now the focal point of powerful changes that occurred in his life.

After creating a BBC documentary about addiction and tackling the war on drugs with Peter Hitchens, Russell Brand has establish himself as a new public health campaigner instead. His argument was simple, it was pointless according to Brand to waste punishment on junkies and drug addicts because the laws do not work. We are simply substituting drugs for another, which is still a criminal offense. Addiction must be viewed as a disease and not a criminal offense, rather it should be perceived as a medical condition that should be treated with compassion.

To him it is not about the moral prohibition or the judgment. He does not care less if people take drugs or use alcohol just as long as they are not addicted to it. The real problem though is when they become a menace to society and the pain that drugs cause to their loved ones.

The only solution for this according to Brand is abstinence based treatment, some treatments like Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, Cocaine Anonymous and there 12-step fellowship programs remain effective. These are all available programs for people who are addicted and they just need to connect it and take it. By changing habits and the nature of the mind, it is possible to break away from drug addiction.

Russell Brand and his Comic Relief team are focusing on raising awareness that these programs exist. Centers and counselors exist and that this is a real option that people who get addicted can take.

A person needs to have a real desire to get better; this is the first thing about addiction. You need to be willing to commit to the changes.

He is 37 now and his life is a mix of new age spiritualism. Brand lives alone with his cat Morrissey in his mansion in LA. He starts the day with transcendental meditation and follows that with Kundalini Yoga. This helps him get his focus right every day. This is a powerful and overwhelming experience for him that he does not even need to do drugs anymore. After this he goes to his office in Warner Bros and this is where he gets a lot of things done like plotting new movies and TV show.

Russell Brand relates to fans the idea that we live our lives in the past, the present and the future is just illusory. We can only live from moment to moment, but we keep on forgetting that. We need to go back to our essential oneness, about attuning to frequency bandwidths of consciousness and doing away with superficialities and so on- we need to have a spiritual awakening.

He reminds fans that it’s not really important what other people think about you. It should not really be your business to mind those things. All that is important is that you do your job and livelihood well and all else should be intrinsic.

Russell Brand does not look up newspapers anymore. We have a short time to live and spending time reading some rubbish is not going to cut it. Instead he spends more time reading about books that he really loves books that can cultivate his sensibilities and his mind.

Here are some inspiring quotes from Russell Brand himself:

“No-one really feels self-confident deep down because it’s an artificial idea. Really, people aren’t that worried about what you’re doing or what you’re saying, so you can drift around the world relatively anonymously: you must not feel persecuted and examined. Liberate yourself from that idea that people are watching you.”-Russell Brand

“It’s difficult to believe in yourself because the idea of self is an artificial construction. You are, in fact, part of the glorious oneness of the universe. Everything beautiful in the world is within you.”- Russell Brand

“Sometimes, as a comedian, a line will come to you that are so beautiful, so perfect, that you think: I did not create this line. This line belongs to all of us. Surely this is a line of God.”- Russell Brand

“It would have been convenient to be gay. Just because of the grooming, the narcissism, and stuff like that. But I have this kind of roaring heterosexuality. Traditional, uncomplicated heterosexuality, an almost clichéd Robin Askwith thing.”- Russell Brand
